First Year Parents Forum – A review of a first year parent’s experience
In September 2017 ‘Wellbeing’ will be introduced for all first year students. As part of the process of developing a wellbeing programme the Parents’ Association were engaged in consultation on how to develop student wellbeing.
One issue which emerged as a crucial element of student wellbeing was their experience of transition from primary to post primary school.
A review of St Peter’s College first year induction programme is currently underway. This programme aims to address the challenges that first year students’ face when they start in post primary school and to prepare them for their new school environment.
We would like to hear about your experience as a parent of a first year student.
Are there any school/student issues, concerns or educational topics that you feel could have been discussed at the presentation on the first morning of school that would have been of benefit to you and your son/daughter?
When you consider your child’s experience of the first few months of school, are there any areas of student or school life that we should focus on, that would help future first years to better settle into life in St Peter’s College?
Are there any issues that the current first years need more help with?
We would like to invite 20 parents of our current first year students 2016/17 to a Parents Forum on Friday 31st March 2017 from 11:30-13:00.
The aim of this forum is to discuss how to improve the transition process from primary to post primary school.
